This will be our first year to participate in the Jesse Tree Advent Activity. I saw this on a friend of mine’s blog, and thought my family could totally do this along with our advent tree. The kids love creating crafts and are constantly asking me about Christmas and Advent. I figure this would help with their understanding of how important Christmas really is to the world. And not just Christmas, but Advent. . the preparing our hearts for the Christ child’s birth.
For those of you who are not familiar with this concept, a Jesse Tree is basically Jesus' family tree also of Jesse, the father of King David. Each day until Christmas we as a family will read a Bible story and make an ornament for our "tree". Instead of creating a separate tree for this, we’re just going to hang the paper ornaments on our family Christmas tree.
There are many “versions” of the Jesse Tree. The one I’m using in particular can be found here.
Today’s bible story is from Genesis 1 and 2 – the story of creation. The symbols suggested to use are the sun, the moon, stars, animals, or the earth. We decided to use a picture of the earth. It was great to see the kids working together as Hannah cut out the ornament, and Cayden taped it together and hung it on the tree.
I cannot wait until tomorrow. This will be an activity we continue for years to come. Thanks, Crystal for sharing your family tradition with us!
